About the blue screen of death
The modern Windows crash screen, complete with sad face, a plausible stop code and a percentage that stalls in the eighties. It sits there indefinitely, which is the part real crash screens get right and most fakes get wrong.
How to use it
- Press fullscreen so nothing gives away that this is a browser tab.
- Leave it. The counter climbs and then stops advancing.
- Press Escape twice to exit fullscreen and dismiss it.
Questions
Has my computer actually crashed?
No. It is a still web page with a counter on it. Close the tab and everything is exactly as it was.
Why does the percentage stop?
Because real crash dumps stall. A counter that runs smoothly to 100% is the giveaway on most fakes.
Is the stop code real?
It is a plausible-looking code, not a genuine diagnostic. Nothing has gone wrong to diagnose.
Does this cost anything or need an account?
No. Every tool on the site is free, needs no sign-up, and works immediately in the browser with nothing to install.
Will my screen stay awake while it runs?
Turn on Keep awake and the browser holds a wake lock, which keeps the display on with no input until you leave the page.
Put this on your site
The embeddable version drops the page around it and runs the tool on its own.
