Does the DVD logo ever actually hit the corner?
Yes. On this page it hits a corner every 35 seconds exactly, because the horizontal and vertical bounce cycles are deliberately locked together.
A corner hit needs the logo to touch a vertical edge and a horizontal edge on the same frame. Here each axis is driven as a triangle wave with a fixed traversal time, and those two times are set to a 7:5 ratio, so both axes land on an edge together every 35 seconds at any window size.
Most implementations instead add a velocity each frame and clamp the position at the edges. Clamping discards the sub-pixel remainder, so the two axes drift out of step and exact corner hits essentially stop happening — simulating that approach over an hour of playback produced between zero and one corner hit depending on screen size. That is the honest answer for a real DVD player too.
How long do you have to wait for a corner hit?
Thirty-five seconds, every time. The counter increments on a fixed cycle rather than at random, so you can watch one happen on purpose.
That is a deliberate design choice, not what a real DVD player does. On real hardware the logo dimensions, screen resolution and step size are arbitrary, the cycles almost never re-align, and the wait can run to hours — which is precisely why the event became a meme worth filming.
Will a bouncing logo burn into my screen?
No. The logo never stops moving, so no pixel shows the same content long enough to age unevenly. Static images are what cause burn-in.
This is what screensavers were invented for. LG describes most television burn-in as the result of static images displaying uninterrupted for many hours or days, typically at peak brightness. A moving image spreads that wear across the panel, which is why a bouncing logo is a much safer thing to leave running than a paused video or a static desktop.
